Taiwan Taipei Itinerary Day 2 (Wufenpu/ Raohe/ Shilin)

On the 2nd day, we decided to head to the legendary wufenpu for some shopping! It’s at houshanpi mrt and when you exit, you will see a super long zebra crossing and that’s where the entire wufenpu street lies! But before that, we decided to have our lunch at Yentl Pasta, which is right at the entrance of wufenpu, 2 minutes walk away from the MRT.

We ordered 2 plates of pasta even though there were 3 of us because we peeped at the tables around us and realized that the portion is actually quite huge. Frankly speaking, I wasn’t expecting much from the restaurant, but I’m glad that it turned out much better than expected!

Al Dente Pasta with awesome sauce! We had tomato-based pasta with Beef and pesto, super unique pairing but it was DELISH! The carbonara had the usual ingredients and it was great! We also ordered a set lunch just to try out the dessert (because it’s more value-for-money that way)

The set lunch came with soup and salad. The mushroom soup was yummy, unlike the watery, starchy kind that you get in lousy restaurants. The salad was fresh, but the portion was too small, we finished it really quickly!

Creme Brulee! (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

The first time I had Creme Brulee was at my friend’s place, when she made it for her party. I fell in love with it then and when I saw it on the menu, I knew I had to give it a shot! It came with the set lunch and it was FREAKING GOOD. The set lunch is really super value for money, after converting it to SGD, it’s only about $15 for the set, it also came with a drink! We spend about $30 SGD in total and we were all stuffed and happy 😀 The cafe’s ambience was great as well!

After lunch was SHOPPING TIME \(^ ^)/ The shops at wufenpu only open after 12pm. So don’t go there too early! There were SOOO many shops, insane number, I don’t think we managed to walk through every single one of them. Oh, and you can BARGAIN! For example, if it costs 290 NTD, you can tell the shop owner that you want it 250NTD. Be persistent and they will give it to you. Also, buy more, the more you buy, the cheaper you can get it for! Don’t bother walking into the shops, just look at the racks outside which are usually selling at 100~300 NTD. About $4-$12 SGD. The clothes inside the shops are usually selling at $20 SGD, which doesn’t makes much sense to buy them because they are not exactly branded. If you shop long enough, some of the clothes selling at 500NTD in one shop could be found selling at 100NTD in the other shop. So DO NOT BUY IT IF IT IS MORE THAN 300NTD.

We were super tired after 3 hours of shopping (non-stop) and we decided to call it a day because we bought soooo much stuff and it was impossible to carry them anymore! We decided to go the RaoHe Night Market  nearby to get the famous pepper bun! It’s about 10 mins walk from wufenpu, right next to song shan train station (Not mrt station, but train station)

ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Freshly baked pepper buns! The smell was driving us crazy, it was so good but we had to queue for it! Luckily we went during off-peak period, before 6pm, because soon after we arrived, the queue became crazily long!

ImageImage

A westerner at work! Damn cool! I saw how he wrapped the bun one by one, he took only about 10s for each bun! Damn amazing! I mean, it’s such a rare sight to see a Caucasian making chinese food! I was really impressed!

Rachel actually finished the entire bun herself! That shows how good the pepper bun is! (FYI, my younger sister is severely underweight because she’s super fussy about food, but the fact that she finished it just shows how good the pepper bun is!)

Crazy queue!

Then we took a cab back to our hotel at Zhongshan because our arms were breaking from our shopping load. After putting our things down in the hotel, we went to the famous Shi Lin Night market! Just take a train to Jiantan station, and Shilin is right there! (The photos are not of high-quality because I forgot to bring my camera out and had to rely on my mobile phone)

Prawning at ShiLin! So different from Singapore!

Fishing! LOL

Sorry for the blur image. This is called “guan cai ban” which translates to “coffin” in english. I guess it got the name because it really looks like a coffin. A coffin with ingredients before it was being cut up into 4 pieces. It’s actually deep fried bread with a lots of yummy fillings! We ordered the original-flavoured one with shredded chicken, ham and prawn in it!

Image

Decided to have some Mango Snow Ice because it was so hot!

Image Then we had some peanut cake! Quite unique!

Oh btw, PLEASE DO NOT BUY FRUITS FROM THE SHILIN MARKET. IT WAS SUPER OVERPRICED AND WE SORT OF GOT CONNED INTO BUYING FRUITS AT EXORBITANT PRICES. We had 2 or 3 servings of fruits at SGD$13! That’s about 300NTD! CRAZY!! When i asked the lady why it was so expensive, she said “look, we wrote it down.” 50NTD for 100g. When we said we didn’t want it anymore, she just raised her chopper and shouted at us angrily, we were so scared that she was going to hack us with her chopper and we just gave her the money. I swear I was so freaking mad after that!
