Groupon : Revive Wellness Signature Brazilian Waxing Review Blog (Clarke Quay)

For lazy readers who wants to know if this is a good deal and not read through my entire review, my answer to you is ‘PLEASE DO NOT GO FOR IT’

I’ve never felt so compelled to write any review in my entire life, but I feel like I have to do this so that anyone who google and sees this review will know what they signed up for.

My package with Strip has ended 2 months ago and I was looking for a cheaper place to do my Brazilian waxing because each session at Strip cost about $62, it’s slightly cheaper with the package, maybe $55 per session (?) but that to me is still a rather hefty price to pay.

After reading good reviews on blogs about Revive wellness, I decided to buy the Groupon and give it a shot. Groupon offered another option which is 2 session for $35 and I AM SO GLAD THAT I DIDN’T TAKE UP THAT OFFER EVEN THOUGH I WAS INITIALLY TEMPTED TO.

What to expect?
1. Call them up to book an appointment
2. Turn up for appointment, fill in some forms for registration
3. Put your items in a locker provided
4. Enter the room to wash your Vagina (V)
5. Change into the bathrobe given to you, with your undies off
6. 30-45 minutes of torture begins.

It’s only right that you expect some form of pain from Brazilian Waxing, but having gone through so many sessions at Strip, I can tell you the kind of pain experienced at Revive Wellness compared to Strip is so much more!!

What is wrong?
1. Number of times they wax your V
Strip: As far as I can remember, the average number was about 5-7 times? Which means you only have to endure the excruciating pain of the wax ripping off your hair for a maximum of 7 times? They usually smear the hot wax over one area of your V once and rip it in a swift action and trust me, for some reason, you just don’t feel that much pain.

Revive Wellness: I counted more than 12 times. They do the same thing, smear hot wax over one area and rip it in a swift action. However, the difference is that they go over the exact same spot 2-3 times because they don’t do it well the first time! Not all the hair are off compared to strip where everything comes off at the first try. This is shit because after the first time they wax over that one spot, the pores are opened and maybe some of the top layer of dead skin are also being pull out, so imagine if the first time is not done smoothly and you have to put the layer of hot wax over it the 2nd time, it’s gonna hurt extra because it’s like pouring hot water on your new “wound” and trust me, it hurt a HELL LOT. Now, imagine this x3 for some area that’s more tricky (ie your inner lips) WA I TELL YOU, I WAS SO TEMPTED TO WALK OUT OF IT, PAIN UNTIL CAN DIE. I suspect it’s the type of wax they use and perhaps also the lack of skills of the beautician.

2. Interior Decor:
Strip: The room is brightly lit, no feel of sleaziness at all. From the equipment they use, to the lighting and design of the room, it just feels very clean, very sterile and it also smells super clean for some reason. You will be asked to lie on a bed with a clean white towel on it. After that, you will be asked to spread your legs so that they can start the Brazilian Waxing, and your knee will be supported with cushion.

Revive Wellness: The first thing I noticed when I walked into the room was that it was very dimly-lit, and it felt quite dirty for some reason (maybe it’s due to the poor lighting) I was asked to lie on a bed with a flimsy tiny plastic sheet that was too small to cover the entire bed. When I looked up at the ceiling, I couldn’t help but notice dust/mold forming around the walls. It turned me off a little before I even started the Waxing. After you spread your legs to begin the Brazilian Waxing, they will support your knee (at the side) with towel rolls – towels rolled up in a roll. (Not a big deal for most, but I just didn’t like that idea.)

3.Beautician:
Strip: Out of the 6 or 7 times I’ve been to Strip, all the beautician were very chatty, they will talk to you, distract you so that you don’t feel as much pain as you were supposed to. They were all very friendly and somehow put you at ease.

Revive Wellness: It was complete silence. Except for the “1, 2, 3 BREATHE IN, *RIPS THE WAX OUT*” By doing that, I felt that it was more painful and it made me more anxious to know that I had to wait 3 counts for them to rip it off.

Duration:
Strip : Start to end – 20 to 25 minutes. (Duration of suffering? None. Mostly painless and quick) And I would say it’s a fair review because I’ve done it so many times at strip. Every single time was painless and quick.

Revive wellness : 45 Minutes. (Imagine out of the 45 minutes, you have to suffer for 35 minutes)

5.Results

Strip: Smooth and no red bumps after 2 hours.
Revive Wellness: Smooth but red bumps stayed for more than 10 hours.

Advice?
If it is your first time, just go to strip, because doing it at Revive Wellness will induce some serious phobia of Brazilian Waxing. If you’re not cash-strapped or you have low pain tolerance, please do not buy the Groupon. It is just 35 minutes of torture. I left Revive Wellness with the bathrobe soaked in sweat because I was perspiring from the pain. When it comes to your Vagina, just pay more, it’s worth every single cent!

Image

Abishek Chicken! Spicy fried chicken which has been marinated overnight with 40 types of spices. Quite tasty!

Soft Shell Crab Burger that tasted so, so good. But..it was freaking tiny and it was $16!! Time to make it myself 😀

Soba set! Wonderful choice for people on diet and for those who are allergic to Gluten! The lunch set came with a plate of maki, chicken broth, miso soup, Chawamushi, salad, Salmon Sashimi and fruits!! Super huge portion for a person, I couldn’t finish mine haha!

They had a lunch set promotion. For every lunch set purchased, the 2nd set will be 50% off! The lunch set was $22.90. But since my friend and I ordered 2 sets, the bill was only slightly above 30!

Saveur’s & fourfingers crispy chicken!

Image

Saveur’s Pasta! ($4.90) So basically it’s pasta tossed in chilli oil topped with Sherry minced pork and ebi sakura. I don’t see how this counts as french cuisine but it is delicious 😀

 Image

Duck Confit ($10.90) SUPER GOOD! I think I’m a little biased because I love eating ducks! But i really really like it because the meat was quite tender and savoury! Tasty yum yum!

Image

Chicken Roulade with Foie Gras Stuffing and Basmatic Rice ($9.90). This was okay, don’t really like it. The rice was tasty but I feel that the portion was way too small to be satisfying 😦 The chicken was so so.

Image

Oh did I mention, Saveur has a really really cute chef. Sigh, I attempted to a take a picture of him but my camera ended up focusing on daniel instead 😛 HAHA, but of course, daniel is the best 😀

Saveur’s far east outlet!

And because we were greedy, D and I went to fourfingers and had their delicious chicken wings 😀 apparently they have student discount and it was $6.95 for a set. Originally at $9.95 without the student discount. Hehe and then we spent the day at ion shopping new shoes and clothes 😀

Peperoni Pizzeria (Big big pizza) and presents from US :D

D is back from US and I’m so happy to see him again 😀 He also bought me many many many presents which made me super excited and happy. On the way to his house, he said “how many presents do you think I bought you?” So I counted the things that I wanted, which was the naked palette 2 by Urban Decay and the Urban decay primer potion (eden) and the top that his dad chose, and i said “3!”

And then he said “wrong, it’s 9!” WHAAAAA!! I was super excited because I’m always a present girl, I LOVEEEE PRESENTS!!! I was begging him to tell me while he was driving me to his place, and blah…he refused.

When I reached his place, he just had to keep me in suspense by taking out the present 1 by 1. I was overly excited but still have to wait, worst feeling ever 😦 Image

“Wait wait, must be patient”

Present 1: Reese peanut butter chocolate cups!!! MY FAVE!!!Image

Present 2: Mini peanut butter chocolate cups!! FAMILY PACK!! Wha, can eat until I become fat fat 😀Image

Present 3: Starburst!!! I LOVE!!!

Present 4: More starburst!!! 😀

Image

Present 5: Finally! My Urban Decay Naked Palette 2! You can get it at Sephora at $80 bucks in Singapore, which is super pricey. But in US, it’s only 50USD, and that’s about 62SGD! Mega worth it! Image

Present 6: Urban Decay primer potion, Eden!Image

Present 7: A skirt!! D bought me a skirt which he thinks I look great in.

Image

Present 8: Forever 21 Top chosen by D’s dad ❤Image

Present 9: Secret! Cannot tell you all 😀

Me with my 8 presents 😀

Yay!! Happy me 😀

So after that, I went to meet my friends at Peperoni Pizzeria at 7 Binjai Park and the 5 of us ordered 2 “big big”. Haha, we call the mega pizzas big big because it’s cuter that way 😛

Hehe, we ordered 2 bigbig and the waitress kept asking us “are you sure you guys can finish it?” “How many of you are there?” “5 people?” “1 big big can be shared between 4 people, are you sure you want to order 2?”

I was mega persistent and said “Yes! 2! We are hungry!”
And she said “Are you sure? I really don’t think you can finish it”
To that reply, I said “Yes, confirm can!”

Guess what, the 5 of us finished the 2 bigbig! Ohmygawd!! University students are naturally big eaters hahaha! Nom nom! Since all their prices are nett. Each big big (family size pizza) is $50, and the bill came up to be $100! So super cheap! Each of us only had to pay $20 and we were stuffed. The pizza was really awesome too, LOVE IT!!!

And we ended the day by walking over to KAP macs and played cards for many many hours haha ❤

PS Cafe (Ann Siang Hill)

Sometimes I really really think that I must have been a very a good person in my previous life (If there’s even such a thing) because I have way too many awesome friends. Like. Seriously.

I’m a rather frank and straightforward person, so sometimes I say many hurtful things without even realizing it but luckily, my friends never ever hold it against me. Awww. I’ve known Yonghan and Jonliang since I was 14, when I first guest-played for VJC string ensemble back in…let me count… 7 years ago, in year 2006. I was an oboist from st nicks and VJC needed an extra oboist for their concert and somehow, I got involved. & that’s where I know the both of them 😀

As we grow older, we became busier, so we have less time to hang out with each other and sometimes no time to hang out with each other 😦 But we do make it a point to meet ONCE EVERY YEAR. Hahaha, sounds like the star-crossed lovers. Okay, yea. We call it AGM (Annual General Meeting) and tadah, this is the 2013 one. Probably the only one in 2013 because I’m going to Germany for exchange in 2 months.

We knew we wanted to visit Kki for their cakes, but we had no idea where we were gonna go for lunch. So we walked and walked around Ann Siang Hill, under the scorching sun and we gave up when we saw PS Cafe and we went in on impulse, for aircon and for food. lol.

Pardon the lack of photos, we were too hungry and unglam (with all that perspiration and messy hair after walking around for 30 mins)

PS Signature Steak Sandwich ($30)
This was almost perfect, but the bread was way too tough. Not only it was difficult to cut, it was also difficult to chew. Sigh, if only it was slightly softer, then it’d have been perfect. The steak was well done, I especially like the sauce that came with it.

Image

Smoked Salmon and Coriander Cakes ($28)
Pan seared salmon cakes topped with soft poached eggs

This was THE BEST. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection and the salmon was salty but it was the nice sort of salty. A great combination of eggs and salmon. The bread was also just nice, not too tough and not too soft.

Image

Chorizos & Eggs ($28)
Grilled chorizo with asparagus & Tomato Jam on sourdough with eggs of your choice. (poached/scrambled)

Awesome! You just can’t go wrong with sausages and scrambled eggs. But $28 is a little too steep, I feel.

Jonliang looking happy with his food 😀

Ugh, really hate how my hair looks in this photo. Bad hair day 😦

Although the prices are a little steep, it’s still quite worth the money because the atmosphere was great. A great place to just chill and catch up with your friend’s life. The portion are also quite huge, we were all satisfied by what we ordered. And kudos to our friendship. We had a really long and nice chat. As usual, I did most of the talking and both of them just listened.
